Embracing chaos, simple complexity, does that even make sense? I don’t really care, they are the best words I can find to describe the feelings I get from seeing Daniels art. Through the use of a diverse range of mediums, Daniel captures the feeling of the abyss, the tunnel of the unknown. The infinite nothingness of the universe caught in a maelstrom of expression and captured in these creations, a similar sense of the static from a neglected television. I have driven hours just listening to the static of the dead radio bands, the music of cosmic radiation and interference, now I can just sit back a zone out into the amazing art of Daniel Barron . I recommend your spend 5 minutes and do the same, better yet check out his art show in San Francisco on May 13th at Ligne Roset.
Lost was I among he chaos of culture, the sea of creativity that exists here is Los Angeles. Stranded in the South Bay of LA, full of bros and fake boobies, I was torn about how to find any sort of raw music scene, people doing what they love despite the pressures of the mainstream doing its best to drown out the craziest of crazies. One night, out of the light of a hot oven, Lo-Pie shown its brilliant shine of awesomeness.
Lo-Pie is a lantern that helps guide weary music lovers to the heart of the scene. If you are at a loss for what to do tonight, it would be wise to check out the Lo-Pie events page, a map to the counter cultural greatness in this abyss of conformity and confusion. Why in the world is the culture of LA so popular? I have no clue, but Lo-Pie is what everyone should be looking at! With comprehensive reviews section, shows section, and photos to go with the show recaps, learn how to be cool over at Lo-Pie. See you at the next show!
I have been bombarded by audible and visual vibrations that resonate deep, all coming out of the creative fountain we know here at Realize as G. Willikers (aka Jesse Huelsenkamp). My first encounter with this musical phenomena sprouted from my need to find a band for a show I was booking in downtown San Jose, a suggestion from a coworker to check out the band Rebelskamp, a masterpiece of musicians that come together for a one of a kind show.
Spearheading the vocals is Jesse. From seeing Rebelskamp live, it is obvious the talent every person that makes up the band has, but just recently I noticed the G. Willikers facebook page exploding with diverse and beautiful music, coming out of some instruments I have never seen before. From the looks of it, if the instrument has strings, G. Willikers will have his way with it. And when I say fountain of creativity, well just see for yourself.
For me when someone suggests a band I may like because they sounds like some other music I am into, it honestly turns me away from their suggestion, because I want to hears something original. G. Willikers is original, that is that. Check out more music from both Rebelskamp and G. Willikers on soundcloud here on their sound cloud, or better yet, head to San Jose , Ca and catch a live performance, they are priceless.
If the body is the microcosm of the macrocosm that is the universe, than from what I can see this pattern repeats at scales of time and space unfathomable to the human experience, yet we are here capturing it, living this paradox that is consciousness. This repeating pattern of existence is what I call the “Fractalcosm”. This book is a of poetry is small taste of what it is like to be lost in my head, pretending to know where to go, faced with the enormous responsibility of being alive. These are the marks I choose to leave in my wake of reality, my scars on eternity, and I urge everyone else to do what they love and share it with the world! Support your local visionary!
I adventured out late Easter evening to pray to the gods of creativity and catch some live music out in Fullerton ca. My guide for the night was the under ground guru of the Los Angeles music scene, Drew Yuen, of Lo-Pie.
We traversed the barren wasteland of urban distopia that is LA and arrived safely in the haven that was Continental Room in Fullerton CA, a dark velvety bar full of leather, brass studs, deep red lights and a perfect stage a classy plush curtain, stylish and seedy at the same time.
There were four bands playing to celebrate the resurrection of the most famous zombie of my time, Jesus Christ. Two bands captivated my attention.
The Shrills. This set was mind numbing, not like television mind numbing, but like staring into the depth of the Milky Way galaxy mind numbing, or zooming through a fractal at near light speed mind numbing. It is the only time I have ever had a wine glass shattered on my chest, and probably the most I will ever enjoy getting glass objects hurled at me. Good thing Dan grabbed me a beer before their set or I may have found it in my warm heart to be slightly offended, instead I felt like a jerk for not dancing more. Check them out here:
It is always enjoyable when the band becomes part of the crowd
To finish the show Death Hymn Number 9 took to the phononic field and resonated that shit so hard someone punched the antique cigarette machine just to get some blood up in the mix. There is a vast fundamental difference between the shows where people dance, actually dance, compared to the room full of half there head bobbers.
This musical gathering had a thick atmosphere, humid with the of love for music. Thanks for keeping my mind blown!
